There are 66 books in the Bible divided into the Old Testament (39 books) and New Testament (27
books). The Old Testament deals with events before the birth of Jesus Christ. The New Testament
tells of Jesus Christ’s birth, life, death, resurrection, and ascension. God inspired people from different
walks of life, from different eras, with varying literary styles such as poetry, prophecy, history, love
songs, and biography to author the books in the Bible. Centuries later, scholars divided the Bible into
chapters and verses. The primary method to study the Bible is to read it.

Since the scriptures are summarized, not printed in this The Bible: The Smart Guide to the Bible Series
book, it is best that students weekly read the chapter and verses in the Bible for each study to get a
better understanding of the weekly lessons. It is important to read the section titled, “What’s Special
in …….,” for each book because it gives a summary of the major activities in that book. For a detailed
study, you will find that many books were covered in previous Bible Institute sessions, beginning in
September 2010, and those study books can be read for a more comprehensive study in this series.
